1907 PCGS MS63 $2.50 Gold Liberty CAC

$900.00

Description

The Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle, minted from 1840 to 1907, is the longest-running series of $2.50 gold coins produced by the U.S. Mint. Designed by Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht, the coin’s obverse features Lady Liberty adorned with a coronet inscribed with “LIBERTY,” while the reverse showcases a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows. Notably, unlike some larger denominations, the Liberty Quarter Eagle did not adopt the “In God We Trust” motto after the Civil War.

In 1902, the Philadelphia Mint produced approximately 133,540 of these coins.

Despite this mintage, only 48 specimens have been awarded the Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC) sticker, indicating exceptional quality within their grade. CAC is a third-party organization that evaluates previously graded coins and awards stickers to those meeting their stringent standards, providing collectors with added confidence in the value and authenticity of their pieces.

This particular coin is housed in a classic NGC “fatty” holder, known for its thicker design used in the company’s early years, which is often sought after by collectors for its vintage appeal.
